My 3 Career Choices

There are three career choices I can do.  The one I'm learning about in school is to be a chef.   Another choice to be is a mechanic.  Another career I learned about in high school was gardening.  They are all a little different and have different requirements.

If I were a chef I would cook food, develop menus, manage supplies, and be the boss to other cooks.  I might get a cooking certificate so I can do this.   At Fort Dorchester I am learning cooking, and about nutrition.  Other skills I can use as a chef are math, and people skills.  As a chef I can cook anywhere in the world.  I can work for a big or small company or I can open my own restaurant.

Another job that is interesting is being a mechanic.  I am interested in being a mechanic because I go to my mom's work and help out.  A mechanic fixes cars or trucks.  A mechanic should have several certificates.  He needs to know how to use tools, understand electricity, and do math.  A mechanic always has to be learning new things because technology is always changing.

The last career I'm interested in is being a gardener.  As a freshman and sophomore I took horticulture at Ashley Ridge High School. A gardener grows flowers and vegetables and takes care of the lawn.  He can get a certificate or just learn on the job.  He needs to understand lawn equipment, how to use fertilizer and how to understand the weather.  A bad thing about being a gardener is you may not be able to work all year long or on days with bad weather.

Of my three career choices, chef, mechanic and gardener, chef is my best choice.  I have one more year of culinary arts at Fort Dorchester and then I hope to get a job at a restaurant.
